First Metal Gear Solid 4 Review Gets 10/10!

Here’s something that will get PS3 owners excited - The first Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of Patriot is here!

    met1.jpg

UK Official PlayStation Magazine has reviewed the game and gave it a perfect 10! A comment from the review:

“Every question posed and loose end dangled since Metal Gear first introduced stealth gaming to the world in 1987 finds closure here…. Even by the series stratospheric standards, MGS4 is a remarkable high point…. As a fan of the series I was expecting closure. What I wasn’t expecting was the game’s commitment to framing that closure with so many new ways to experience the series’ ‘evade or die’ core values”

BE WARNED - the the last line of the following snapshot contains a spoiler.

Konami unveil details for UK Limited Edition Metal Gear Solid IV - £79.99!

Konami has finally unveiled details for the UK Limited Edition version of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

    meta.jpg

The Limited Edition will retail for whopping £79.99 and will include a six-inch-tall Old Snake action figure, a soundtrack CD and a “Making Of” Blu-ray featuring a pair of high-definition documentaries including lots of chatter from Kojima Productions staff, including Hideo himself. The package is exclusive to Play.com.

Meanwhile, those of you who pre-order MGS4 from GAME can expect to be rewarded with a DVD called Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2, featuring a seven-part documentary about the series origins and evolution - the same disc made available for US and Canadian pre-orders.

The US version of the Limited Edition also promises “collectible packaging with exclusive artwork by famed Kojima Productions illustrator Yoji Shinkawa”, but a spokesperson for Konami wasn’t able to immediately confirm that for the UK.

Martin Schneider, Konami’s European marketing director said:

“Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is rightly seen as the stand-out title for 2008, and we were determined to come up with something special for its launch”

“With interest so high, it is only right that we reward fans of the series for pre-ordering the game, and the Metal Gear Saga DVD is a stunning look at how the series has evolved into the phenomenon it has become. Likewise, the Limited Edition is a celebration of all things Metal Gear, and will be prized by those who buy it.”

MGS4 hits store shelves world-wide on 12th June.

Movie Trailer Bulletin - First Trailer for new X-Files Movie!

The X-Files: I Want to Believe is the second feature film based on the TV series The X-Files, following the 1998 film. The sequel is directed by the television series creator, Chris Carter, and written by Carter and Frank Spotnitz.

The film was first anticipated in November 2001 to follow the conclusion of the ninth season of the TV series, but it remained in development hell for six years before entering production in December 2007 in Vancouver. The stars of the TV series, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, return to reprise their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. The premise of the film is not yet publicly known, but many of those involved, including Carter, Duchovny and 20th Century Fox, have spoken of the film as one that would stand alone and be apart from the “mythology” of the television series

The movie is scheduled to hit theatres on July 25, 2008.

Reviews are here for the new Indiana Jones movie!

    indy.jpg

A few reviews have popped up following test screenings for the fourth Indy flick, Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

As history has proven, the success of sequels is 50/50 - either they’re absolutely amazing or a complete waste of time - “cough’s Terminator 3″. Fortunately for Indy fans, there was a massive sigh of relief when we learned the original team was back to resurrect our childhood hero.

You can’t go wrong with an A Team - Spielberg, Lucas and Ford……can you?

3 reviews have cropped up on AICN but be warned, they’re FULL OF SPOILERS and not just small things, i’m talking about MAJOR plot points.

If you don’t want to have your fun ruined, don’t read them - it’s that simple! To sum them up for you, there’s surprisignly a mixed reaction - One loved it, one loathed it and one thought it was average.

I’m personally going to remain optimistic - It’s Indiana Jones man!

50 Top Tips & Tricks for Windows XP/Vista

wins.jpgIt’s always nice to simplify life especially when it comes to computers, to be more specific, MICROSOFT WINDOWS!

There’s thousands of sites offering ways to simplify your Windows experience, some good, others..well a waste of space but the latter cannot be said for computeractives Top 50 Tips and Tricks list for XP and Vista.

Here’s the first 3 to whet your appetite:

Tip 1 - Access My Documents from the Taskbar (XP and Vista)

Right-click an empty section of the Taskbar and select toolbars, then New Toolbar. Navigate to the My Documents (XP) or Documents (Vista) folder and click the OK or Select Folder button. In its default position to the far right of the Taskbar, the toolbar provides menu access to the entire contents of the folder.

Tip 2 - Extra speed with Readyboost (Vista)

Plugging in a USB memory key is one of the easiest ways to speed up Vista. When the Autoplay menu appears, select ‘Speed up my system’, or right-click the drive in Computer and select Properties. Move to the Readyboost tab, tick ‘Use this device’ and use the slider to choose how much space should be given up. Not all USB memory keys are fast enough to provide this boost.

Tip 3 - Save folders after a crash (XP)

If you have lots of folders open in Windows XP, when one of them crashes, they will all close. This can be avoided by using a hidden option. Open the Control Panel, then choose Folder Options. Move to the View tab and scroll down through the list of options until you get to one called ‘Launch folder windows in a separate process’. Place a tick next to it, then click OK.

Zebra® Card Printers Play a Vital Role in Preparation for Angola Elections

May 8th, 2008—Zebra P640i printers have been used to register eight million Angolan voters using biometric data, ahead of the first elections in the country for the past 16 years.

The printers were used in mobile registration centres set up in each of the country’s 18 provinces. The voters’ identity was verified and biographical and biometric fingerprint data, with a digital photograph, were printed and encoded on the card.

In all 700 P640i secure id printers were supplied over an eight month period providing each voter with secure, tamper resistant identification in readiness for the country’s upcoming legislative and presidential elections in September 2008 and 2009 respectively.

With an area of almost 1.25 million square kilometres, Angola is five times the size of the UK with a demographic density of just eight people per square kilometer, making the remote delivery of the project its biggest challenge.

The security class card printers were supplied by auto-identification specialist Identisis, a leading Zebra Card Printer reseller, to SINFIC, the systems integrator on behalf of the Angolan government. SINFIQ created mobile registration centers for each of the 18 provinces and a National Data Center for the aggregation and quality control of data.

Card printing equipment had to be able to withstand the rigours of the Angolan climate while reliably producing the voters’ ID cards in remote locations on demand. It was important too, that the right consumables to deal with these conditions were available.

The choice of the Zebra P640i was endorsed by Identisis following Zebra’s early involvement in project discussions, which included testing every element of the unit’s performance to demonstrate its capabilities in what would prove to be trying local conditions, and training local operators in the use of the machines.

The P640i printers were chosen for two main reasons. The P640i produces secure cards that can hold significant amounts of information including photo ID, fingerprint, and encoded details that can be read from a barcode on the reverse. Secondly, because the card is laminated, the card and the data are protected and won’t be corrupted by heat, dust, or humidity.

Around 40 people were trained initially and divided into seven ‘brigades’ that travelled out into the Angolan provinces, often to remote villages, to record voters’ details and produce the cards.

The mobile registration teams would identify citizen voters, collect biographical and biometric data, take a photograph, and then print the card on the spot. This information was then stored on the National Data Centre to centralise the data and help to combat any attempted fraud of multiple registrations.

“Zebra have provided high levels of support from the very start of this project. They have worked with us on both the specification and implementation elements of the project and this teamwork helped to ensure effective execution of the solution,” said Mario Bonixe, Managing Director of Identisis.

‘Zebra delivered a very professional service, not just in the quality and durability of the printers, but also through their commitment to training people to operate them efficiently in difficult environmental conditions,’ commented Eurico Santos, of Systems integrator SINFIC.
