The Zonbu is one of the first of what I see as the new generation of home computing. Its essentially an embedded PC which uses an online medium for storage. The specifications of the device are:
- Intel-like ultra-low power CPU
- 512 MB RAM + 4GB flash-based local storage
- Graphics up to 1400 x 1050 (16 million colors).
Hardware graphics and MPEG2 acceleration - PC-compatible ports for keyboard and mouse
- 6 USB ports to plug-and-play all standard USB accessories
- Broadband ready: 10/100MB Ethernet built-in.
- Linux based Operating system
And costs just $99. This is with a 2 year subscription, for online storage. The storage packages come as 25Gb, 50Gb and 100Gb priced at $12.95, $14.95 and $19.95 respectively.
Apparently the device will only use energy equivalent to the third of a standard lightbulb.
All in all seems like a decent piece of kit for those who only use their PC for light browsing, photographs and the odd bit of wordprocessing.
